Bitter gourd is a green-skinned vegetable containing white to translucent flesh with a bit bitter taste. It is also called bitter melon, bitter cucumber, balsam-pear, bitter apple, or bitter squash. Bitter gourd is popular due to its medicinal properties. The fruit is a good source of iron, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin B. In Sri Lanka Bitter gourd is eaten as a vegetable. Momordica charantia may elicit a non-allergic type-I.
How to consume Bitter Gourd
Reconstitute in hot water for 20-25 minutes; drain and use for omelets, frittatas, scrambled eggs, curries, salads, soups, salsas, stir-fries and sautés.
Can use to make bitter melon tea & mix with juices.
